Cost Savings

Cost Savings

This depends on frequency of use, electricity rates, and power usage of your existing fluorescent tubes.

80% of Australia’s fluorescent tubes are controlled by inefficient ferro-magnetic ballast. This adds an average 10W-20W load to a 36W bulb. Our replacement LED units draw just 15W. Tubes last up to 10 times longer than fluorescent tubes, giving additional savings on replacement and maintenance.

A small business/shop with 30 fluorescent tubes running 5 days per week, 10 hours per day.  The initial investment is $2100, resulting in a saving of $435 per year on electricity. After offsetting the capital expenditure against tax, the return on investment is 30% p.a.

If the business successfully applies for the Green Building Fund (giving 50% of the capital costs of refurbishment) the return on investment rises to 60% p.a.

Over the lifetime of the LED tubes (19 years in this case) the business will save a total of $9235 (even without the GBF refund) and a total of 60 tonnes of CO2 emissions.

Saving $435 per year

A school with 200 fluorescent tubes running 8 hours per day, 200 days per year. The initial investment is $14,000, resulting in a saving of $1786 per year on electricity. After successfully applying for the Green Building Fund, the return on investment is 26% p.a. Over the 30 year lifetime of the LED tubes, the school will save $65,560 (based on today’s electricity prices) and 400 tonnes of CO2 emissions.

Saving $1,786 per year

A supermarket with 200 fluorescent tubes running 24 hours per day, 360 days per year. The initial investment is $9,800 (after tax refund), resulting in a saving of $9,642 per year on electricity (a 98% return on investment). Over the lifetime of the LED tubes (6 years) the business will save $61,500 and 400 tonnes of CO2 emissions.

Saving $9,642 per year

NOTE: Electricity costs are estimated to rise up to 25% under the government’s proposed Emissions Trading Scheme, which will make the savings even greater.

The case studies are based on the following assumptions:

•  Replacing 36W T8 fluorescent tubes, running 10W ballast with our 15W LED tubes.

•  Lifespan of fluorescent tubes: 5000 hours. Lifespan of LED tubes: 50,000 hours

•  Electricity costs of 18C per KWH
•  Cost of replacing fluorescent tube, $3.50 plus $10 for electrician.
